Sometimes (Often?) Humor and Animation Provide the Best Illustration of Reality

Often, it is difficult to understand that we live in a sea of metaphor.  Words, themselves, are a metaphor of the realities we live.  We use words to describe what we experience; they are not the experiences themselves.

The images we see that show what is taking place, in film and in photos, is but a metaphor of the reality unfolding.  So, too, are the innocent and real drawings of children.  In fact, many of these accurately show the emotional response to the realities in a way that adults often only describe in a fleeting manner.

With an incident so stark, real, and yet surreal and unclear as the nuclear situation in Fukushima, many people are asking, "what – really – is going on?"…  The answer, I think, is best told, in a metaphor.
