The Girl Who Silenced the World for 5 Minutes

In 1992, at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, 12-year old Severn
Cullis-Suzuki gave a stunning 6-minute long speech about environmental
destruction, war, and the suffering of children.  Sadly, in the 18
years since that speech, little has changed about the predicament for
youth in our world.

The most encouraging thing, though, is that not only are many young
people today as committed to changes in human values and behavior, but
that Severn, too, has continued to devote herself to the issues that
she raised in her youth.  If anything, her passion seems to have grown
as she has grown and matured.
