The RSA: 21st Century Enlightenment

I recently came across an animated video on YouTube, called 21st Century Enlightenment.  I started out watching it, expecting to switch to another tab, and listening instead to the audio alone.  I do this frequently with YouTube videos, using them more like Podcasts.

This video, however, was a different story.  Animated it is, but in a playful way using a whiteboard and sketching.  It is sort of like a Mad Professor lecture, except the audio and animation are separately delivered and the quality is stunning.  This video is amazing for the quantity and quality of the information delivered.

The RSA itself is an amazing organization.  It is a 250-year old British institution.  However, its methods and vision are extremely contemporary.

All institutions and educators around the world should take notice.  Learning can happen in virtually any forum.  Effective strategies for providing engaging content for a variety of mediums takes experience, practice, and patience, but it also requires some experimentation and humor.  In particular, I think many people in both the learning and social media "space" in Japan should give this a big think!
